Thai provincial emblems were developed from the emblem of the rulers in the monarchy era and the flag of 14 scouts in the reign of King Rama VI-VII in B.E. 2483. Field Marshal Plaeg Pibulsongkram, the Prime Minister at that time, has determined that each province has its own province seal. The design of the seal was made by the Department of fine Arts according to the concept determined by each province. The symbol of Nakhon Phanom is Phra That Phanom relic, which means, that Nakhon Phanom province has the sacred Phra That Phanom kept in the Phra Urankathat to worship, holding the mind and spiritual believe of the people of Nakhon Phanom together. It is considered the sacred object in Nakhon Phanom city since over 2,500 years.
